Rodney is an twenty-five-year practitioner of visual communication and image design. His early career history includes serving as designer for HNTB, an architectural engineering firm, art director for Caldwell advertising agency, and partner with Designology, a communication design firm. As founder of RLR Associates, Rodney began providing graphic design and consulting services to Midwest firms including: Ratio Architects and BSA Life Structures in Indianapolis, Kathryn Quinn Architects and Ralph G. Moore Associates in Chicago.

Rodney incorporated RLR in 1994, and expanded its services to include a full range of environmental graphic design including corporate identity, interpretive exhibits and themed spaces, wayfinding signage, and promotional print materials. To date, RLR has the distinction of being the only MBE firm to design and produce a permanent exhibit and learning lab, "Ball Enterprise" for the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Rodney has also directed exhibit and theming projects for the Mint Museum of Craft + Design in Charlotte, North Carolina; National FFA Organization, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Conseco Fieldhouse basketball arena; the US Grand Prix, National League of Cities and the Indianapolis International Airport.

Rodney attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, where he majored in Architectural Engineering Technology. He is an active member of the board of directors for the International Center of Indianapolis, as well as the Arts Center of Indianapolis. Rodney is also a professional member of the Society for Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD).
